Amenity products that break down in nature
16 Jun, 2010 Hotel and Motel ManagementConcept Amenities has developed a unique ‘green’ range of in-room guest amenities made with an organic based enzyme additive, which is fully biodegradable (ERP).
They contain Eco Pure: a safe, non-toxic, organic based additive from Bio-Tec Environmental LLC.
• ERP products fully biodegrade in landfill;
• Unlike common plant based bio plastics, ERP products do not require the industrial composting and high pressure conditions in order to biodegrade;
• ERP products that currently meet recycling standards can still be recycled using local recycling facilities.
Concept Amenities have an exclusive global license to use Eco Pure in their new range of
Environmentally Responsible Products. This is an exceptionally unique innovation in the
field of bio plastics that Concept Amenities is very excited to be offering.
ERP packaging will be biodegradable. This includes tubes, bottles, caps, liquids, soaps and
accessory items. All plastics will be biodegradable as well as paper sachets that have been
made with post-consumer recycled material.
ERP formulations are gentle and nourishing for skin. These formulations are rich in moisturizing
ingredients and contain no sulfates, no parabens, no phthalates, no petrochemicals and no
mineral oil.
Eco Pure expands the molecular structure of plastic, weakening the polymer chain that allows microbial action to completely break down the material over time;
• This biodegradation process can take place aerobically and anaerobically, with or without the presence of light, heat and moisture allowing biodegradation to occur in general landfill conditions;
• Concept Amenities can use post-consumer recycled materials in our ERP amenities.
Northeast Laboratories Testing, a third-party hired by Concept Amenities, conducted ASTM test & also tested Eco Pure in LLDP blends.
• These are the most difficult plastics to break down.
• Eco Pure did biodegrade LLDP blends by 6.1 percent after 45 days.
Independent testing has also been conducted by:
- Georgia Tech University
- University of New Mexico
