1 Retrofit locks

Advance RFID by Onity is a modular two-piece locking system that allows hoteliers to easily upgrade to the latest security technology without replacing their entire lock. The RFID reader technology is the most recent option added to the Advance line. Advance RFID offers a selection of aesthetic options, including finishes, handle designs and cover plates that allow hoteliers to blend the guestroom door locks into any hotel décor. The modular design also allows a cost-effective upgrade path, making it easy and affordable to keep up with the latest security technology as it evolves. The Advance RFID also features a lock audit trail. Non-volatile memory records the last 500 lock openings including date, time and card used and the removal of batteries does not cause any loss of events. There is also a  “do-not-disturb” function, a deadbolt operated by a thumbturn inside the room for added guest privacy and security, as well as an option to program the length of time the door remains open. Physical features include off-line installation (no wires required), several finishes and three kinds of handle design. Cover plates are available for retrofit projects.

2 Design-conscious locks

The Signature Series by VingCard ensures an intuitive use for guests and staff. The Signature RFID locking solution was especially designed with new construction and major hotel renovations in mind to fulfill the desire for design continuity for hotel corridors, guestrooms and other hotel areas. VingCard operating systems are also easy to interface with any PMS and POS, hotel kiosk and other hotel systems. Features include: flash RAM memory; 600-event audit trail; an optional dual reader (magnetic stripe and smartcard); motorized lockcases; high-security, heavy-duty mortise lockcase available in ANSI or EURO versions with panic release - the deadbolt and latch are automatically retracted by the inside handle for easy egress in emergency situations. VingCard’s RFID locking solution also boasts a three- to five-minute installation that requires no replacement of the lockcase or handles as well as no drilling required. The RFID reader is available in black as the standard finish in addition to red, orange, green and blue.

3 Tracking locks

Kaba, the provider of Saflok and Ilco electronic locks, has launched the sectional Quantum lock, which offers a two-piece modular design. The Quantum MT features an MT lock inside trim and a Quantum sectional outside trim. It is available in two formats: Quantum MT insertion card reader and Quantum MT RFID contactless smart card reader. Quantum MT standard features include upgradable lock firmware that reads smart, memory and magnetic-stripe keycards; indicator lights integrated in the card slot; storage up to 5,900 events; and lock audit/interrogation via smartcard. The patented Saflok tracking mortise is designed to communicate the latch position of the door. As a standard feature of the model, the mortise tracks the use of both the inside and outside levers as well as the condition of the door’s latch. The Quantum MT also features eight finish options.
