W Hotels to open its first alpine escape in North America

Northridge Capital, owner of the Sky Hotel in Aspen, Colorado, has partnered with Sarpa Development to build a property at the base of Aspen Mountain. Marriott's W Hotels will operate the new hotel and residences. Fortress Investment Group is providing construction financing, and Haselden Construction of Denver is the general contractor.

The W Aspen and The Sky Residences at W Aspen is set open in time for the 2018-2019 winter ski season. It will be the first alpine escape in North America from W Hotels Worldwide.

W Aspen is being designed by the Rowland+Broughton Architecture of Aspen and Nemaworkshop of New York City, in partnership with W's in-house design team. The design of the 88-guestroom mountain chalet will draw inspiration from Aspen. It will have an oversized split-level Living Room, the brand's alternative to the hotel lobby. The hotel will also have a 1,600-square-foot outdoor patio and a 12,000-square-foot rooftop bar and pool, overlooking Aspen Mountain.

Other amenities will include a ski shop, 1,100-square-foot FIT (the W brand's gym concept), and more than 1,600 square feet of event and meeting space.

Meanwhile, the Sky Residences at W Aspen will have the first slope side address in downtown Aspen since the opening of the Residences at The Little Nell. It will have 11 fractional residences, with each residence located on the third or fourth floors of W Aspen. It will have views of Aspen Mountain and the Aspen area. It will also have a private rooftop deck with a pool and gathering areas.
