Wyndham to open new hotels in Crete, Cyprus

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Zeus International have signed an agreement to bring two new additions under the Wyndham Grand and Wyndham flags, marking Wyndham’s entry into both Crete and Cyprus.

In 2017, Wyndham and Zeus announced a partnership to develop 20 hotels over 10 years across Greece, Cyprus, Italy and the Balkans. Over the past 18 months, the two companies have already identified eight of these hotels and opened six of them (including the recently opened Wyndham Grand and Wyndham Grand Residences in downtown Athens), with two now to open in the coming months.

Wyndham will enter the Greek islands with a new upper-upscale hotel in Crete, adding the five-star Mirabello Bay Hotel to the Wyndham Grand brand. This seaside resort and meetings destination is located minutes from Agios Nikolaos in the Elounda region of Crete. The hotel has 311 guestrooms, more than 6,000 square feet of meeting space, five restaurants and bars, swimming pools, a spa, a gym, a variety of sports facilities, a basketball court, beach volleyball, a club for children and a range of water sports.

A new Wyndham hotel will open in Nicosia, Cyprus, marking Wyndham's debut in the country. The hotel will be in the center of the Cypriot capital, within the city's Venetian Walls, and will have 140 rooms and suites, seven conference rooms (for up to 1,200 attendees), two restaurants and bars, spa, fitness center and other facilities. The hotel is owned by National Pangaia SA, considered the largest real estate investment company in Greece. Zeus International will undertake the reconstruction and operation of the property, which will include architecture by Neni Spartsi and Schema4 architects, which has undertaken the overall design.

“Zeus International has become an incredibly important and strategic partner for us in the Mediterranean region and we are very excited about these two new additions to our portfolio,” said Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “In 2018 we introduced our signature meetings and events brand, Dolce, in Attica Riviera—our first Dolce hotel in Greece—and opened the Wyndham Athens Residence, our first mixed-use concept in Greece. We see tremendous growth potential in this region and have ambitious plans to continue expanding our footprint and introducing new brands. Our partnership with Zeus will be instrumental in helping us reach all of these milestones.”

Wyndham currently has nearly 9,000 hotels open in more than 80 countries.
