IHG, Arabia Hotels sign 2 properties in Giza, Egypt

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a deal with Arabia Holding subsidiary Arabia Hotels to develop the first IHG properties in Giza, Egypt.

The 200-room Holiday Inn Giza Sun Capital and the 150-room Staybridge Suites Giza Sun Capital are set to open in 2023. The properties, near the Pyramids of Giza, will be developed as part of the Sun Capital mixed-use development, sharing the site with a commercial mall, an Egyptian cultural-themed park, an international university and an international school. The development is also close to the city center and the 6th of October Airport.

These are the latest additions to IHG’s portfolio in Egypt, which already includes more than 2,000 guestrooms across five hotels in Cairo. They are part of IHG’s plan to expand across the Middle East and North Africa in primary markets.

MENA Growth

The new hotels follow the opening of the 508-room Holiday Inn Dubai Festival City earlier this month as part of an agreement with Al-Futtaim and the signing of Dubai’s first Staybridge Suites—the 160-room Staybridge Suites Dubai Festival City. The new Staybridge Suites will be IHG’s fifth hotel in Dubai Festival City, following the InterContinental Dubai Festival City, InterContinental Residences, Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City and the Holiday Inn Festival City.

IHG also signed Saudi Arabia’s first Holiday Inn Express hotels with Al Kohair Group just a day earlier in a master developed agreement. The groups plan to develop at least 10 Holiday Inn Express hotels within the next 15 years, which will operate under long-term franchise agreements. The first Holiday Inn Express to open in the kingdom will be a 200-room hotel in Jeddah.
