General managers: Time to tell us what you think11 Oct, 2011 By: Stephanie Ricca
Maybe autumn is the season for new jobs, but we have noticed a lot of GM appointments in the news recently (a couple in this very newsletter, in fact).
Every year Hotel Management publishes its “Voice of the GM” survey, where we ask the thousands of GMs who subscribe to our magazine and newsletters questions about salaries, job satisfaction, budgeting and more. It’s an eye-opening report. Take a look here at the results of the 2010 Voice of the GM survey to see how your property stacks up:
Here’s a quick snapshot of last year’s results: Most GMs are male, their typical salary ranges from $40,000 to $59,000 and it goes without saying they’re worried about average daily rate, laying off employees and keeping up with brand standards in spite of low purchasing budgets.
But the best part is—they’re all happy! And trust me, this is an anonymous survey. We don’t publish the results with names attached, and GMs still say they’re happy.
Our 2011 Voice of the GM survey is open now, and we would love for you to participate. Click here to take the survey, or forward this to the GM at your property. Results will be published here and in Hotel Management magazine, in November.
