Holiday Inn Express Suites in Indio, Calif., the first new build for the city since 1985

8 Mar, 2013

Construction is beginning on a Holiday Inn Express Suites in Indio, marking the city’s first new hotel in more than a quarter century and adding close-in accommodations for growing area festivals, concerts and seasonal polo matches.

Developer Howard Parks is behind the new three-story, 47,684-square-foot, 89-room hotel. The property will be next door to the 125-room Clarion Inn, which was built in 1985 and was the last hotel built in the city.

Indio city officials said more rooms are needed in the east valley to accommodate visitors attending popular events, including the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament and Humana Challenge Golf Tournament.

Indio Mayor Elaine Holmes said the new hotel serves as “a catalyst for economic growth and great opportunity for tourism in our city.”

Indio officials said the new Holiday Inn will boost revenues because the city collects a 10 percent transient occupancy tax on larger hotels.
