MTM Luxury Lodging to manage Seattle's Sorrento Hotel

31 Aug, 2010 Hotel and Motel Management

Sorrento HotelSEATTLE – The Sorrento Hotel owners Barbara and Michael Malone are pleased to announce a recent agreement with MTM Luxury Lodging, a premier boutique hotel management company, to manage the iconic Seattle hotel.

“Given Michael’s history with MTM, their in-depth knowledge of the property and successful track record this was the natural choice for us,” said Barbara Malone, co-owner. “They manage the finest properties in the Pacific Northwest and are experts in the creation of outstanding guest experiences that reflect the unique nature of their hotels. They will help us to build upon our wonderful reputation.”

“We are pleased to welcome the Sorrento Hotel back to the MTM family,” said James Simkins, CEO, MTM Luxury Lodging.  “It is a very special property that has an unmatched ambience and a storied history as Seattle’s longest operating boutique hotel.”

Sam Johnson has been named as general manager of the Sorrento.  Most recently, Sam led asset management of a portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts for a private real estate investment firm. Previously, Johnson held the position of general manager at many of Seattle’s top boutique hotels, such as Salish Lodge & Spa, the Alexis Hotel and Hotel Vintage Park, during a successful 30-year hotel career. He brings dynamic leadership, marketing expertise, decades-long ties to the local community and a strong customer-centered management style well suited for the Sorrento.

“This is a perfect opportunity for me to lead the Sorrento to the top of the Seattle hotel market,” said Johnson. “In addition, MTM Luxury Lodging is a company I’ve long admired, as we have similar philosophies relating to the importance of creating customers for life, building a strong hotel team and the seriousness with which we work to increase the value of hotel owner assets. This made the opportunity to take the helm of the iconic Sorrento irresistible to me.”

Long a favorite of Seattle locals, the 76-room landmark Sorrento Hotel, which opened in 1909, is located in the historic First Hill neighborhood and is home to the famous Hunt Club and the most romantic bar in Seattle. The Malone Family has owned the hotel since the early 1980’s. In celebration of its 100 year history, the Sorrento introduced a new series of relevant cultural happenings highlighted by the successful Night School program held in collaboration with Michael Hebb.
