Wyndham Hotel Group debuts new luxury hotels in Paraguay and Uruguay

Hotel developer Wyndham Hotel Group’s global presence is expanding further across Latin America and the Caribbean as the company opens two of South America’s first Wyndham Grand locations.

With the debut of its upper-upscale Wyndham Grand brand in Asunción, Paraguay, and Montevideo, Uruguay, 10 of the company’s 18 brands operate in 11 countries across the continent. The development comes less than five years after the hotel group opened its 100th hotel in the region, and brings the number of Wyndham hotels in this region to 200.

The newly constructed Esplendor Asunción – A Wyndham Grand Hotel and Esplendor Montevideo – A Wyndham Grand Hotel are in the centers of two capital cities. The 16-story, 206-guestroom Esplendor Asunción is located in Asunción’s corporate center near local businesses, art galleries, shopping and restaurants. Designed by Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, the 241-guestroom Esplendor Montevideo is located near Punta Carreta's restaurants, boutiques and cultural sites.

“Wyndham Hotel Group has made massive strides in Latin America over the last five years, establishing our diverse brands in key markets and meeting the needs of a growing traveler base seeking globally-recognized, quality hotel brands,” Paulo Pena, Wyndham Hotel Group’s president and MD, Latin America and the Caribbean, said in a statement. “It’s only fitting we commemorate our 200th hotel in this growing region by introducing one of our most aspirational brands to South America.”

Wyndham Hotels Group will manage both locations, increasing the company’s collection of more than 100 managed properties around the world.

The company also recently acquired Latin American management company Fën Hotels and its 25 hotels across Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Paraguay and the U.S.

The Wyndham Grand portfolio is expanding around the world to new destinations, including Athens, Phuket, Shanghai, Istanbul, Chicago and Clearwater Beach, Fla. The brand also plans to add new-construction resorts in Barbados, Belize and Nevis over the next two years.
