Legal tip: Protect against peeping Toms

6 Oct, 2011 By: Karen Morris

Try as you might, intruders will find their way into your hotel. The inn’s legal duty is to ensure it is taking reasonable steps to protect guests from attack. A recommended security precaution is to provide peepholes in guestroom doors, enabling patrons to verify the identity of visitors before allowing them entrance. If telltale signs exist of tampering, or if an apparent peephole appears in other than a designated location, the hotel is expected to discover the problem and take corrective action. Add peepholes to the list of items housekeeping should check while in guestrooms cleaning. Investigate new devices to limit rigging.
