HEI Hotels' CEO reflects on hotel group's progress

In a letter to more than 5,500 associates, Gary Mendell, CEO of HEI Hotels & Resorts, based in Norwalk, Conn., reflects on the company's successes. "Although it continues to be a difficult time in the economy, through your hard work we grew our hotel portfolio and continued 'providing comfort and hospitality for those away from home.'" HEI finalized 10 transactions between 2009 and 2011, as the company continues to invest in underperforming properties. HEI was also tapped this year by President Obama to participate in the "Better Buildings Challenge," due to its environmental record.
