OpenWays introduces Mobile Master Key

25 Oct, 2011 By: Andrew Sheivachman

OpenWays' new locking technology allows hoteliers to neutralize a lost master key with a mobile application. Overall key rights can also be managed from a device for the first time.

“Currently, when a master key is lost or stolen, each and every lock must be manually re-programmed to ensure that anyone finding the master key cannot open every door in the hotel," said Pascal Metivier, OpenWays founder and CEO, in a release. "Master Key losses happen more often than we think. What's important is that the loss is reported quickly so hotel staff can immediately walk to every lock in the property and get them reprogrammed. The procedure is a must to keep proper security, but it is a major burden and it repeats itself every time a master key card is lost."

OpenWays has pioneered crypto acoustic credentials that allows guests to access their guestroom with any mobile phone. Now, hoteliers have robust credential management tools to go along with this access technology. Since any mobile phone can be used with this technology, hoteliers don't have to outfit their staff with costly smartphones in order to use OpenWays. The company announced its latest advancements at HITEC in June.

Other phone-based key solutions utilizing Near Field Communication technology will hit the hospitality market in coming years.
