Former Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall in Jamaica to rebrand as a Park Hyatt

The Jamaica Gleaner reports that Playa Hotels and Resorts, the new owner of what was the The Ritz-Carlton, Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica, will reflag the property as a Park Hyatt, the first Hyatt hotel in Jamaica.

Hyatt will step in the day The Ritz-Carlton closes on May 20, after 13 years in Jamaica.

Playa bought the property from the Rollins family and the Urban Development Corporation. It plans to add some 100 suites to the current 427 rooms.

The group has submitted a plan to the St James Parish Council, which includes a massive refurbishing. Construction is set to begin in June.

Sources tell The Gleaner that the hotel plans to reopen for the 2013-2014 winter tourist season.
