Reopened: Hotel Schweizerhof now Design member

Hotel Schweizerhof, located in Bern, Switzerland, will re-open on June 24, 2011, as a member of Design Hotels.

Hotel Schweizerhof, which is located inside a 1913 listed building and is one of Bern’s most recognizable landmarks, has recently undergone a renovation to both the exterior and interior. Designers from London-based practice MKV Design, who were chosen to work on the project, created a mix of classic architecture and modern design.

Inside the hotel, corridors have been scaled down to make the 99 rooms and suites more spacious. Some rooms feature refurbished antique furnishings, flat-screen TVs and Nespresso coffee machines. The Lobby-Lounge and wood-paneled restaurant, Jack’s Brasserie, remain favored by well-heeled locals and hotel guests alike.

Renovations to the outside of the hotel were also implemented. The arched façade has been restored, with carved coats of arms above the windows and Juliet balconies overlooking Bern’s historic center.

The Grand Opening Night on Friday, June 24, will mark the conclusion of the opening phase.
