The InterContinental San Diego; Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.; Waterfront Hotel in Oakland, Calif.; Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort in Big Sur, Calif.; Hotel Hendricks in New York City; and Home2 Suites by Hilton Charlotte Piper Glen in North Carolina have appointed new general managers.

InterContinental San Diego

InterContinental San Diego, which opened in September, named Chuck Abbott GM. Most recently, Abbott served as GM of the 563-room Prince Waikiki and Hawaii Prince Golf Club, where he led a $60 million renovation. Before that, his more than 35-year career included time as regional VP, Southeast Asia for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, VP of operations at the 4,000-room Sheraton Macao Hotel in Macau and several general manager positions in China, Guam and South Korea.

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M. picked Claudia Wattenberg as its new GM. Wattenberg, with over 30 years of experience in hotels, has worked with Hyatt Hotels Corporation since starting as a front-desk agent at the Hyatt Regency Cologne in Germany. She has spent the past eight and a half years with the company serving as a general manager in Park City, Utah, and Cambridge, Mass.

Waterfront Hotel

The Waterfront Hotel in Oakland, Calif., fresh from a multimillion-dollar renovation, appointed Jeffery Durkin general manager. Durkin’s more than 25-year career has included multiple stints as GM, most recently at The Lauren Inn in San Francisco and at Larkspur Landing properties in Milpitas, Pleasanton, Campbell and Sunnyvale, Calif.

Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort

The 59-guestroom Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort in Big Sur, Calif., named Onal Kucuk GM. With close to 20 years of experience in hospitality, Kucuk has spent the past five as a general manager, serving at the Hotel Lincoln in Chicago, The Camby, Autograph Collection in Phoenix and, most recently, the Thompson Chicago. Before those roles, he spent time as area director, director of operations and director of rooms.

Hotel Hendricks

New York City’s Hotel Hendricks appointed Sietse Nabben general manager. Nabben, who began his hospitality career in food-and-beverage management more than 20 years ago, has spent more than seven years as GM for a range of properties, all in the San Francisco Bay Area. He moved to the East Coast a little over a year ago to serve as managing director for the Royalton Park Avenue in New York, where he was responsible for a full executive team, brand transition and preparations for its upcoming renovations.

Home2 Suites by Hilton Charlotte Piper Glen

North Carolina’s Home 2 Suites by Hilton Charlotte Piper Glen, currently in construction and opening in July 2019, has welcomed Adam Nicholas as its general manager. With more than 10 years of experience in hospitality, Nicholas most recently served as GM for Hilton Garden Inn Charlotte North and assistant GM for Hilton Garden Inn Charlotte/Ayrsley and Hilton Garden Inn Charlotte Airport.
