Sage Hospitality breaks ground on independent Denver hotel

Sage Hospitality, Walnut Development Partners and Exdo Development broke ground on an independent hotel concept in Denver. The as-yet-unnamed hotel, scheduled to open in early 2021, will feature 165 guestrooms, a restaurant, a rooftop bar and a fitness center.

Accommodations at the property will include a multifunctional lofted bed, pull-out sofa and full kitchen. Each floor will feature complimentary laundry services and a water-filling station. A 3,600-square-foot four-bedroom home, originally built in 1890, will be preserved and updated for guests to reserve.

The hotel will be located in Denver’s River North Art District, steps from a commuter rail station that connects directly to Denver International Airport. The property will offer bikes, skateboards, scooters, cameras and other items for guests to borrow and use around the city. Sage Hospitality and its partners plan to include an art program and events programming that will be open to both guests and the public.

“The creative environment and culture in RiNo have perfectly set the stage for us to develop a unique concept at this location,” Jason Kaplan, a principal with Walnut Development Partners, said in a statement. “By merging the comfort of your apartment with the high-level service, experience and flexibility of a hotel, we believe the property will be very complementary to the growth currently underway in the neighborhood.”

Denver-based architecture firm Shears Adkins Rockmore Architects is leading the building’s design. Katerra and Farrington Construction Management will lead general construction and DLR Group will handle guestroom interior design. OMFGCO will oversee brand concept and design.
