Pebblebrook to open 1st West Coast Margaritaville

Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and Margaritaville Holdings unveiled plans Monday to open the brand’s first West Coast resort in San Diego. Pebblebrook expects to reflag its Paradise Point Resort & Spa as the Margaritaville Island Resort San Diego in 2020 following a $35 million renovation.

The hotel will be located on the 44-acre Vacation Island in Mission Bay, 10 minutes from downtown San Diego. It will feature 462 casita-style single-story guestrooms, 80,000 square feet of meeting space, a mile of beachfront, signature Margaritaville food-and-beverage concepts, new recreational activities and family-friendly amenities, a marina, a spa, tennis courts and a fitness center. Its five pools and public spaces will receive updates to reflect the rebranding.

Davidson Hotels & Resorts will operate the property as Paradise Point Resort & Spa until the hotel is reflagged and will continue to manage it following the completion of the renovation and reflagging program.

“Following an extensive evaluation of numerous alternatives, we selected Margaritaville because we believe it is the perfect fit for our San Diego Paradise Point Resort & Spa,” Jon Bortz, chairman/president/CEO of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, said in a statement. “The Margaritaville lifestyle brand is synonymous with fun and escapism, as is our property, and we expect a dramatic improvement in financial performance of Paradise Point upon reflagging, consistent with other Margaritaville-branded resorts.  This marks Margaritaville's first West Coast property, which will allow our resort to target the loyal West Coast followers of the growing globally recognized Margaritaville brand.”

Pebblebrook Hotel Trust acquired Paradise Point Resort & Spa in 2018. It will assist with the transition along with Davidson Hotels & Resorts. The company owns 60 hotels, totaling approximately 14,500 guestrooms.

Margaritaville features 18 lodging locations, with 24 additional projects in the pipeline, nearly half of which are under construction.
