Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando completes $22M Italian-inspired renovation

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando has announced the completion of a $22 million Italian-inspired renovation that saw changes made to the facade of the buildings to its 750 guestrooms and suites.

Guestroom draw inspiration from Portofino, Italy's vacation villas and hotels, with the use of a palette of neutral cream colors paired with shades of aqua, and complemented by terra cotta-colored marble and custom-designed, white-washed furnishings. Guestrooms were renovated from top to bottom, with all-new furnishings, beds, window treatments and artwork.

In addition, the hotel now offers Despicable Me-inspired hotel suites. These two-room suites have missile beds and Minions, who rappel from the ceiling and surround guests.

Outside, the trompe l'oeil on the hotel's facade has been refurbished. Artists used the painting technique – trompe l'oeil – intended to trick the eye, as they hand-painted hundreds of thousands of square feet on the hotel's exterior.

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is a re-creation of the Ligurian seaside village of Portofino, Italy. As the first on-site hotel at Universal Orlando Resort, it has cobblestone piazzas, outdoor cafes and a nightly musical show. On offer are: three themed swimming pools, seven restaurants and lounges, complimentary Wi-Fi, a spa and an exclusive package of theme park benefits.
