United Design Partnership designs W Barcelona's W Lounge

The W Barcelona has unveiled W Lounge, a lounge in the heart of the hotel, with the design of the venue led by London-based studio United Design Partnership.  The W Lounge is a re-invention of the hotel’s Living Room (W’s take on the traditional hotel lobby), following a €1 million renovation investment.

According to Stephen Crawley, design director at United Design Partnership, the new W Lounge boasts colors and materials chosen to convey the nautical personality of W Barcelona. The inspiration for W Lounge was based on the theme of “sky and sea by day and night”.  As such, W Lounge features a combination of colors that change with the time of the day. The entrance and bar area are cloaked in a palette of blue, turquoise, white and silver, creating an ombré effect that echoes the meeting of the sky and the sea. A black strip in the middle of the lounge draws guests’ attention out to sea and the view.

The DJ is set at the back of the VIP cabana joining the two sides, public and private, of W Lounge. In the VIP area, the works by Italian-based artistic team Carnovsky transform depending on the light in the area, creating layers of color and surfaces that evolve and interact with each different color stimulus.

Fin-shaped screens create a wave effect in the lounge and bar areas, while sea urchin patterns and dark coral colors evoke a nautical party feel. The Nautica hanging chair by Mut design, a Spanish design company, is a contemporary take on the traditional use of rattan.
