ARYA Group transforms Bernardus Lodge & Spa

Bernardus Lodge & Spa announced its scheduled debut in April following a four-month, multi-million dollar transformation. Set on 28 acres of lavender and vineyards, the 57-room property is shouldered by the Santa Lucia mountain range with Big Sur to the south.

ARYA Group, a Los Angeles-based architectural/design firm, is helming the transformation. Keeping with the property's authentic aesthetic, a rustic-chic ranch estate concept will unfold when the property debuts.

Key design elements will include the opening of public spaces to provide vineyard views, redesign of the hotel lobby, retool of all luxury guest accommodations, a re-envisioned pool and spa experience, new and expanded event venues and a new dining concept.

The Lodge will showcase Italian stonework, mosaic tiles, grass cloth, French oak floors and chandeliers set in neutral tones of olive leaf, mascarpone, charcoal and oyster. Oxidized copper and seagrass accents will be showcased throughout, matched with punches of aqua and green lichen.

Lucia Restaurant & Bar will be opened under the leadership of chef Cal Stamenov. Redesigned, it will include additional 2,300 square feet, al fresco terrace and new interior. There will also be expanded private venues, and a 25,000 bottle wine cellar round. Seating will be expanded to serve 120 with a separate bar.

For events, the property will have 300 square feet of flexible meeting/banquet space and 5,000 square feet of alfresco venues. Hosting groups of 10 to 150, the retool will include upgrades to all meeting spaces and expansion of the Meritage Ballroom. Meanwhile, the Harvest Room, key for culinary events, will showcase an upgraded exhibition kitchen with pecan floors, and Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances.

First opened in 1999, Bernardus Lodge and Spa is set on 28 Carmel Valley acres, and has 57 guestrooms, the Spa at Bernardus Lodge, Lucia Restaurant & Bar, two swimming pools, an alfresco bocce court and 4,300 square feet of meeting space. Woodside Hotels, a Bay Area operator of a portfolio of independent luxury properties, is the new management company for the property located on the Monterey Peninsula.
