BBG-BBGM projects win IIDA Lester Dundes awards

July 1, 2009--New York, NY--Several BBG-BBGM interior design projects were recently recognized for awards in the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) New York Chapter’s prestigious 2009 Lester Dundes Awards Competition.  In the residential interiors category, BBG-BBGM’s design for The Chelsea Stratus, a 41-story luxury condominium tower in New York City, won first prize, while the firm’s design for The Charleston, another high-end New York City residential development, received an honorable mention.  In the hospitality interiors category, the firm’s design for the 55-story Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre Hotel at CentralWorld Plaza in Bangkok, Thailand, received an honorable mention.
“We are extremely proud of The Chelsea Stratus, The Charleston and the Centara Grand,” said Amy Jakubowski, IIDA, LEED AP, BBG-BBGM’s Design Partner. “It is always a great honor to be recognized by our peers for the quality of our work.”
BBG-BBGM’s design palette for both The Chelsea Stratus and The Charleston consisted of finely detailed materials innovatively applied to achieve a cohesive and distinct identity. For the Chelsea Stratus, natural materials such as stone, rich woods and rusticated metals including oxidized bronze and patina’d copper created a warm, relaxing and sophisticated design.  In order to appeal to a younger audience, The Charleston’s design incorporated clean, raw elements such as stained concrete floors, steel mesh curtains, crisp white crystallized glass, and deeply-colored resin wall coverings.

The interiors for the Centara Grand incorporated indigenous Thai colors, textures and references to nature, woven into a concept based on the four essential elements of life— earth, air, water and fire. BBG-BBGM strategically applied the design palette created from this vision to all guestrooms, suites, restaurants, amenities and public spaces.
