Bold patterns: Painted Plains Collection by AVO

Brooklyn-based bag designer Brit Kleinman of studio AVO launched a collection of soft leather rugs hand painted with bold graphic patterns and cowhides. Each of the Painted Plains rugs has a natural outline which is unique to each piece. Every rug is hand painted in Brooklyn, using water-based stains with high penetration and dyeing power. Formulated with natural and synthetic waxes, the stain will never bleed or rub off. The rugs are fully protected from wear and tear with a clear top coat and fitted with an industrial anti-slip fabric, ensuring they will stay in place on the floor.

Kleinman was born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., and currently lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. After receiving a degree in Industrial Design from The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she began her career designing bags for Samsonite and Timberland. She then spent five years as head bag designer for Jack Spade. She also worked with Shinola, Grain and Wejetset.
