Clearer when closer: 2x aluminum mirror by Assembly

New York-based design studio Assembly announced the 2x aluminum mirror, which is created using two different finishing techniques. Crafted from a single sheet of .25 inches of aluminum, the mirror is made using a combination of hand finishing processes and advanced machining techniques. The result is a sculptural reflection that gets clearer the closer the subject is to the mirror.

The 2x aluminum mirror is part of a broader collection by Assembly. The pieces in this collection are said to explore the extremes, subtleties and possible outcomes in common materials.

Assembly was founded in 2012 by Pete Oyler and Nora Mattingly.
