Swedish designer Note Design Studio has announced that it teamed with Spanish furniture manufacturer Sancal to create a new armchair design. Drawing inspiration from Sancal’s archive of classic, French-style chairs, the Tonella armchair is based upon an old dressing-table chair but realized with a much more compact frame. The Tonella armchair has a Marie Antoinette-style seat that is compact, and so can fit into small corners. The Marie Antoinette-style seat, back and arms are made from moulded polyurethane foam. The plain interior area can be upholstered in fabric or leather, the outer area is quilted to follow the barrel style lines of the base and is therefore only available in fabric. There is a metallic support that is reminiscent of wine barrel staves.
Founded in 1973, Sancal is a Spanish manufacturer of contemporary furniture with products made in Spain.
