Crowne Plaza Alexandria completes renovation

Rockville, MD (March 13, 2009) – Jonathan Nehmer + Associates (JN+A), an award-winning hospitality Architecture and Project Management firm, and HVScompass, a leading hospitality Interior Design firm, announced today the completion of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia on the banks of the Potomac River. Surrounded by history, this former Radisson underwent a major renovation to reposition the hotel as a Crowne Plaza. JN+A served as Architect for the project and HVScompass provided Interior Design services.

JN+A and HVScompass were tasked with converting this  253-room hotel that was in need of renovation. The team redefined the exterior of the hotel by selecting a fresher color scheme that breathed new life into the structure. The entire exterior entry and porte-cochere were rebuilt to feature better lighting and landscaping.

Inside, the team updated the lobby and public spaces.  The focal point of the lobby is the newly-designed front desk, a warm and welcoming beacon for guests. HVScompass replaced all the furniture and finishes in the lobby. A new business center and concierge area was also incorporated into the lobby. The 10,000 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom and pre-function areas, received new, more elegant carpet and other touch-ups to upgrade the ambiance for meetings and banquets. The team also modernized the fitness center and rooftop pool furniture. Chequers, the hotel’s three-meal restaurant, is currently undergoing a renovation.

The Presidential Suites are a unique component of the hotel, offering breathtaking views of Washington, D.C. and its monuments. The team created a custom design for the suites, focusing on classic pieces with a contemporary flair. The Presidential Suite bathrooms offer guests ample space for a relaxing bath and pampering. The large, glass-enclosed, steam showers are highlighted with earth-toned mosaic tile, and separate hydro-massage jet tubs lend an upscale, residential feel.  In the guestrooms, the team selected custom fabrics to coordinate with and accent Crowne Plaza’s casegoods. The suite and guestroom walls are adorned with local artists’ paintings and photographs of Old Town Alexandria and Washington, D.C.

The Crowne Plaza Alexandria is owned and managed by Carr Hospitality.
