dash design, a New York-based interior design and brand consulting firm with expertise in the hospitality and retail sectors, expanded its operations to Miami. To head up the firm’s newly formed South Florida office, Paula J. Azevedo, IIDA, LEED AP, an interior design and architecture professional with more than 20 years of experience, joined the firm as a principal.
According to David Ashen, principal and founder of dash design, having a physical presence in this part of the globe allows the company to more readily connect with clients in the Southeast US region, as well as the rapidly growing Latin American and Caribbean markets.
dash design’s Miami location will strengthen its positioning in the Latin American market, building upon the strategic partnership it recently developed with MC Studio in Santiago, Chile, while also attracting new clients. Current work in the region includes a multi-million dollar, multi-year renovation to the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino.
Azevedo joins dash design from pja Create Studios, where she was principal of her own Miami-based collaborative design consulting team, overseeing luxury hospitality projects, destination resorts, commercial projects and residential complexes for projects such as: Wyndham Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida; Biltmore Hotel in Miami; and Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, Florida, to name a few. Prior to this, she spent seven years as a design director at Gettys, where she was instrumental in building the Miami office and in establishing the firm’s South Florida presence, overseeing projects throughout the US, Caribbean and Latin America. During this time, her projects included: CONRAD Hilton in Miami; Four Palms Resort in St. Martin; Hard Rock Resorts in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Cancún, Mexico; Ritz Carlton in Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne, Florida; HGI in Bogota, Colombia and San Jose, Costa Rica; Sheraton Cable Beach Resort in Nassau, Bahamas; and AGC Rotana Serviced Apartments in Dubai. Azevedo also collaborated with Gettys’ Hong Kong office for work on The Peninsula in Hong Kong.
Azevedo is LEED accredited, holds a Bachelors of Environmental Science from Texas A&M University and is certified through the National Council for Independent Design Qualification (NCIDQ). She is a licensed interior designer in Florida, as well as an active member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and a former adjunct professor at Miami Dade College.
