Decorative feature: Layered Wood bench by Sakai Sangyo

Nagano-based company Sakai Sangyo launched the “Layered Wood,” a new furniture project designed by Fumie Shibata.  The Layered bench pairs an iron base with laminated wood seat. To celebrate domestic laminated wood, the Layered bench makes a decorative seat out of the wood’s rings that are exposed in the cross-section.

Nagano Prefecture Larch accounts for over 50 percent of the materials used in the bench. Laminated lumber is typically perceived as less valuable than pure lumber, but the Layered Wood bench is designed to elevate the material through contemporary design.
