Dream Downtown exhibits Yung Jake, LA-based creator of ‘Emoji Portraits’

Starting this month, New York City's Dream Downtown is partnering with Los Angeles-based creator Yung Jake and Tripoli Gallery to exhibit pieces from his “Emoji Portraits” collection. The collection includes portraits of Willow Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gigi Hadid, Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty.

Yung Jake’s installation is part of the hotels rotating art gallery, home to exhibitions from artists such as Bradley Theodore, WhIsbe, Shepard Fairey and Morrison Hotel Gallery.

Incorporating digital technology into his work, Yung Jake's emoji portraits showcase the same painterly skills he developed painting portraits in his formative years.

Yung Jake started painting his emoji portraits in 2015. His company Tig.ht Corp., co-founded with partner Vince McKelvie, developed emoji.ink, which allows its users to paint with emojis.

Yung Jake’s Emoji Portraits will be on display at Dream Downtown until February 2018.
