Greenbelt Marriott wraps up $1.2-million renovation

GREENBELT, Md. — The Greenbelt Marriott has finished renovations on its meeting space, lobby and fitness center. The $1.2-million renovation expanded shuttle services to a five-mile radius, added an outdoor sports staging area, retooled the property's 10,000 square feet of meeting space and added a 1,900-square-foot fitness center.

The hotel's meeting space includes 14 meeting rooms, the largest of which is the 4,800-square-foot Grand Ballroom. The enhanced space has granted the hotel the opportunity to update its brunch, meeting and wedding packages. The new fitness center includes six treadmills, four elliptical machines and full sets of free weights up to 100 pounds.

The hotel itself is situated between the major metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Md., making it a convenient location for business travelers. It is also just a few miles from the University of Maryland's College Park campus, meaning sports fans and parents might find its location helpful.

The new hotel is a mile from where the brand made its debut in London's Mayfair neighborhood 48 years ago. 

The former Holiday Inn in Port Washington will continue under the direction of S&L Hospitality, its owner and operator since 1998.

The hotel will be a conversion of the former Al Areen Palace & Spa.
