HBA and AECOM collaborate on Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay

Marriott International Inc. announced the opening of its third hotel under the flagship Marriott Hotels brand in Hainan Province, China – Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay. The 458-room resort hotel sits at the foot of the Luhuitou Mountain, overlooking the beachfront and ocean. The hotel features two buildings landscaped around four outdoor pools including one infinity-edged pool, tropical gardens, and a seafront lawn. The property’s opening also sees the debut of a new Marriott dining concept in China.

Known as the “Hawaii of China”, Sanya is one of China’s popular tropical resort destination. Located off the southern coast of China, Hainan boasts white-sand beaches and rainforests, tourist attractions, and duty free shopping. Dadonghai Bay is a crescent-shaped beach set against the forested backdrop of Lu Hui Tou Mountain, and is the closest resort destination to Sanya City.

Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay comprises a new building, plus a refurbished Executive Wing (to be opened in first quarter of 2016), formerly the Shanhaitian Hotel. The hotel is near the attractions of downtown Sanya, as well as popular tourist sites including Nanshan Temple, Luhuitou Park, and Ya No Da Tropical Rainforest Park.

This property is the 74th Marriott International Hotel across six brands in China, taking the total number of properties in China under the Marriott Hotels brand to 18 properties. The fourth quarter of 2014 saw the opening of the first Marriott business hotel in the capital Haikou, and then this resort hotel at Dadonghai Bay in Sanya.

The master design concept – conceived by US-based architecture studio AECOM and interiors by HBA – drew inspiration from the natural surroundings, and were designed to provide guests with optimal views of the sunsets and sunrises over Dadonghai Bay.

The new wing offers 292 rooms and suites, each showcasing scenic mountain or ocean vistas. The opening of the refurbished executive wing in the first quarter of 2016 is expected to add 166 rooms and suites with private balconies starting from 56 square meters (603 square feet).

The property has more than 1,747 square meters (18,805 square feet) of meeting space, including a pillar-less grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 880 people, plus an outdoor terrace and a seafront lawn.

For dining, the property has five restaurants, a lounge bar and pastry shop, including the first Goji Kitchen in Southern China. These include: The Lounge, The China Baking Company, and Man Ho Chinese Restaurant, which will open in 2016.

The two buildings of Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay feature four outdoor swimming pools arranged around the beachfront gardens. The infinity pool is part of a natural break between the two buildings, and includes shaded swimming areas with poolside palm trees and tropical foliage. In addition, a lap pool merges into the longest water feature in Sanya that runs along the seafront. There is a dedicated kids pool connected to the adult pool at the lower level beside the beach and ocean.

For junior guests, available is the indoor Kids Club, offering more than 700 square meters (7,535 square feet) of playing and education spaces, plus an active space with a slide ride and an exterior kids’ corner

When fully completed, the hotel will also offer a health club, with a 24-hour fitness center offering ocean views, male and female dry sauna rooms, snooker room and table tennis room, a full-service SPA, and a Water Sports Center.
