Built in 2001, the existing castle housed a museum and apartment complex with much of its space underutilized. The new Luxury Collection Hotel is now home to 300 guestrooms including 27 suites, two deluxe suite and a presidential suite;  a full service destination spa; ballroom, meeting room and boardroom facilities; and five food and beverage outlets including a German-inspired beer garden. The Castle Hotel redeveloped the rooftop terraces and portions of the existing hillside to feature European-style gardens that complement the castle’s architectural character.

“The architectural details of the existing castle structure and breathtaking ocean views to the south are unparalleled,” said Miguel Baeza, partner at HBA, San Francisco. “We took great care to pay homage to the castle by layering grand and majestic interior details with authentic character. The resulting design feels as though the spaces were collected over time. Ultimately, we wanted to convey the notion that this castle was brought over from Europe piece by piece and was meticulously re-assembled in the hillsides of Dalian, China.”

The exterior of the hotel remains true to the original European-inspired architecture with hand-selected stones gracing the façade of the castle.

The Castle Hotel has three restaurants. Zhen Bao restaurant offers authentic gourmet Cantonese fare; Collections is an all-day dining restaurant with an international menu; and the Royal Cellar offers home-brewed German beer and northern European specialties. In addition, guests can choose from two lounge areas – The Lobby Lounge and the Aristocrat Lounge.

For events, The Castle Hotel has a grand ballroom, seven function rooms and an open air rooftop garden. Also available is an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center and the Kaiser Spa.
