Carmel, Calif., is set to welcome back a Grande Dame when the La Playa Hotel reopens next week. The hotel, closed since October, reopens after a $3.5-million renovation. Some of the most important changes are invisible, reports the San Francisco Chronicle, such as the soundproofing and new plumbing, electrical wiring and Internet.
