Hotel Roanoke starts phase two renovations

Phase Two of renovations at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.

ROANOKE, Va. (Jan. 22, 2007) – The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, a Doubletree Hotel, is in the midst of Phase Two of renovations that are transforming guest rooms and corridors, blending fresh and elegant new offerings with its historic ambiance.

The second phase of renovations, involving 180 guest rooms, suites and corridors in the Hotel including the property’s executive level, is expected to be completed in April. About 75 rooms will be out of service at a time to complete the restoration.

The new décor, celebrating the Hotel’s 125th anniversary, was designed by Jillian Van Dresser, an Atlanta-based designer who grew up in Blacksburg, Va. and has much appreciation for the historical significance and grandeur the Hotel has represented over the years.

Each guest room receiving new traditionally inspired furniture from Virginia based American of Martinsville includes: lighted wardrobe, granite top dressers, elegant night stand(s), granite top work desks, individual coffee stations and all new seating and lighting appointments. Flat panel TVs also will be installed in select rooms.

Working with existing monogrammed Hotel Roanoke headboards and newly installed Doubletree Sweet Dreams Beds, additional new “soft goods” include carpeting, draperies and shears, bedspreads, wall vinyl and trim paint also are being redone during this process.  The Hotel has also started on a multi-year project to replace guest rooms with energy efficient windows.

Each guest bath is being renovated to present a more elegant, yet residential appearance including new tile flooring and cove base, wall vinyl, lighting, mirrors and custom vanity cabinets with black granite tops. The corridors are receiving new wall vinyl, trim paint, wall sconces and custom designed carpeting and directional signs.

“This renovation carefully preserves the traditional look of our unique and historic hotel while adding more modern touches today’s travelers expect,” said general manager Gary Walton.

The Hotel’s ownership invested about $3 million in renovations during 2007.
