Houston's Hotel Derek begins major renovation project

A multimillion-dollar renovation is underway on the 312-room Hotel Derek, reports the Houston Business Journal. The project is expected to be completed in March. Los Angeles-based Lowe Enterprises Investors in June acquired the hotel on behalf of a national hotel investment venture. At the time, the real estate investment and management firm said it planned to invest at least $4.5 million in updating the property. Destination Hotels & Resorts manages the 14-story hotel. Interior design firm Flick-Mars is heading the project, which will incorporate bold colors, textured fabrics and natural materials that reflect the hotel’s indigenous surroundings, a statement said.

"Hotel Derek’s design and ambiance will reflect a sense of southern hospitality with an edge," Shawn Gracey, the hotel’s GM said. "The new Hotel Derek will reflect a Texas-chic look and feel with very unique touch points and experiences for our guests."

Hotel Derek is reportedly the third-largest boutique hotel in the Houston area.
