Los Angeles-based luxury hospitality design firm Indidesign announced that it conceived a design for the renovations of the lobby, lounge, and restaurant at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago. The property is known for its Prohibition era origins, hosting celebrity guests throughout the 20th century; and its reputation as the first Playboy mansion in the 1970s.
The history of the property is central to the narrative of the redesign. Indidesign co-founder and design director Beatrice Girelli drew inspiration from flapper era fashion and jewelry, incorporating the lines and motifs of the 20s and 30s in the design of all three spaces.
Indidesign’s renovation will merge the hotel’s Prohibition era past with a modern, boutique atmosphere.
Guests will be welcomed at the entrance by a custom chandelier, restored finishes from the original 1920’s structure, and a contemporary restaurant. Curated art works will hang in the new lobby to make the space feel as if it is the showplace of a private collector. The lounge off the lobby will resemble a classic British club with leather couches and a custom pool table.
