La Jolla's La Valencia Hotel completes renovation

The 87-year-old La Valencia Hotel announced that – as it changes ownership and management – the property finished a complete room renovation, with more updates being planned for the 112-room vintage coastal retreat. The Mediterranean style building has terraced gardens with tropical foliage and fountains, Spanish mosaics and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.

Accomodations include specialty suites and studios and 16 villas. Decorated in warm California hues, each room has amenities such as Frette linens, down comforters, Molton Brown bath amenities, personal safes, Keruig in-room coffee, gourmet private bars and complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access.

The Mediterranean Room – with views, an open air patio and ocean view terrace – is the hotel’s signature restaurant, located adjacent to the La Sala Lounge off the main lobby. Café La Rue and the Whaling Bar – fronting Prospect Street – are presently closed while they are being transformed and expanded into one European bistro style eatery. The space will include a larger bar, terrazzo floors, art deco lighting, warm woods, stone tables, leather banquettes, a collector wine vault, a patio dining option and the Café’s prized Wing Howard artwork depicting a French town and country scenes.

The hotel’s centerpiece is an ocean view heated pool with an adjoining in-ground whirlpool gazebo, both sanctuaries above the Ellen Browning Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove. An array of event rooms – many with ocean views – can accommodate 10 to 175 guests and serve as an ideal backdrop to the oceanfront weddings and events.

After nearly seven decades of local family ownership, La Valencia recently transferred into the hands of Pacifica Host Hotels, a division of Pacifica Companies based in San Diego County. A complete property renovation is currently in process which will include the addition of new suites and a signature spa in the final phase.

Located in the heart of the Village of La Jolla, the hotel is located near a selection of premier retail and dining options. Renowned leisure destinations are minutes away as well, including the La Jolla Cove, Torrey Pines State Park, Scripps Ocean Institute, the Birch Aquarium as well as UCSD/La Jolla Playhouse and the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art.
