Loft Architects, Sinan Kafadar design Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts opened the 136-room Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul Golden Horn. The property is located on Istanbul’s peninsula, 10 minutes away from the Old City’s historic highlights, 10 minutes from the Haliç Congress Centre and 10 miles from Atatürk International Airport, and is convenient to Istanbul’s business districts and shopping areas.

With an exterior by Loft Architects and interiors by designer Sinan Kafadar from the Metex Design Group, the new hotel’s décor evokes the ways in which the Golden Horn estuary has informed Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman history through naval motifs, such as compass designs and interlinking chains, wave wood paneling, the application of watery blues, and the use of white marble, black and white harbor photographs and historical maps. Bold symmetrical patterned carpeting contrasts with the clean lines and subtle tones of contemporary furniture in the hotel’s 11-square-foot) to 344-square-foot rooms. Other design aspects include the curvaceous paneling of the spa and the wooden swirls of the restaurant ceiling.

All rooms, including the hotel’s seven suites, have panoramic views of the city or the waterfront, 40-inch flat-screen televisions with satellite, free Wi-Fi, workstations, laptop-friendly safes, as well as tea and coffee-making facilities. There are private balconies in the hotel’s Premium rooms, while the Golden Horn suite offers a Jacuzzi on one of its two balconies.
