Marriott International is opening the Port-au-Prince Marriott, its first hotel in Haiti. The $45 million, 173-room hotel will be run by Marriott and owned by a unit of Digicel Group, with construction expected to begin next year and finish in mid-2014. Haiti's Port-au-Prince is only operating approximately 500 hotel rooms, which is too few to accommodate the construction workers currently fixing the city in the wake of its earthquake last year.
The new Port-au-Prince Marriott will be located in the Haute Turgeau area of the city, and will feature 168 rooms and five suites. Amenities will include high-speed Internet, flat-screen televisions and 24-hour room service. It also will include nearly 5,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center and swimming pool.
