SCB designing Loews Chicago

Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) is designing the new Loews Chicago Hotel in Streeterville. The project broke ground earlier this month and is being developed by Chicago-based DRW Trading Group (DRW).

The hotel has 400 guestrooms, including 25 suites, a signature restaurant, more than 25,000 square feet of meeting space, spa/fitness center and an outdoor terrace for guest and function uses that includes a pool overlooking the city.

“As a Chicago-based firm, we were excited to design a hotel that is sure to enhance the city’s tourism experience,” said Gary Kohn, AIA, managing principal at SCB. “DRW and Loews chose to partner with SCB because of our firm’s understanding of and commitment to this city, as well as our wealth of experience in hospitality and mixed-use, high-rise design.”

Boasting city and lake views from the guestrooms, the property is located one block north of the Chicago River and two blocks east of North Michigan Avenue. The hotel will be part of a 52-story tower comprised of the Loews Chicago Hotel and 398 luxury residential apartments.

The project will add to SCB’s hospitality design portfolio that includes recent designs for the Marriott Hotel in Naperville, Illinois and the Morris Inn at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
