Shamin Hotels announces completion of historic hotel renovation in Richmond, VA

Richmond, VA - Shamin Hotels, one of the leading hotel management companies on the East Coast, is excited to unveil its first downtown Richmond property, a Holiday Inn Express at the corner of 2nd Street and Cary Street. Formerly a Quality Inn and Suites, Shamin Hotels has completed an extensive renovation and update of the interior and exterior of the building. The unique blend of historical restoration and modern updating features brand new carpet and vinyl throughout, two new express elevators, 100 enlarged guests rooms and suites complete with new furniture and Holiday Inn "Simply Smart" signature bedding, a reconfiguration of the main floor lobby area including 2300 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center, and a breakfast area that will serve a complimentary Holiday Inn "Express Start" hot breakfast; plus a newly landscaped exterior with fresh paint, updated patio furniture and an awning. The hotel will begin operating under the Holiday Inn Express name on November 15, 2007.

"Shamin Hotels is excited about this property and what it will offer visitors to downtown Richmond. The former Quality Inn and Suites was an older and not updated hotel and used infrequently - a shame for a hotel in such an ideal downtown location," said Neil Amin, chief executive officer of Shamin Hotels. "The new Holiday Inn Express will offer travelers great accommodations while allowing easy access to downtown businesses and tourist attractions. We even teamed up with the American Civil War Museum to offer a great travel package in hopes our many visitors - whether business or pleasure - will take advantage of this great new downtown history museum."

The Holiday Inn Express is only a few blocks away from downtown Richmond's business district. Business travelers will enjoy the large "working" lobby and fully-accessible business center, which is equipped with complimentary hi-speed internet access throughout the hotel and guest rooms, and multiple meeting rooms able to accommodate small to medium size groups. And be sure to notice old Sovran Bank artifacts throughout the building. The building was built back in 1964 and served as a Sovran Bank for more than 20 years. While Shamin hotels wanted to update this beautiful asset they also wanted to keep some of the great historic artifacts around to tell the building's story to guests.

Located on Cary Street at the gateway to the popular Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom, travelers will enjoy being in walking distance to the premier restaurants and exciting night life. The Holiday Inn Express is also only a few blocks away from the James River and Canal systems that feature popular tourists' attractions such as Brown's Island and historic Tredegar. The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar will offer reduced admission and packages to all Holiday Inn Express guests.

"The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar is excited to partner with Shamin Hotels," said Anedra Bourne, director of marketing and public relations for The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar. "The Center's staff is eager to promote the discounted packages to out of town guests and create more visitor foot traffic in the Riverfront District."

Shamin Hotels operates more than 20 hotel properties in the Commonwealth and has fourteen hotels in development including Richmond's premiere Hilton Conference Center and Spa in Short Pump that will boast over 20,000 square feet of meeting space. Shamin will also be developing three new hotels at the Richmond airport in addition to two more at Virginia Center Commons and two in Colonial Heights.

Shamin Hotels will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 17 at 5:00pm. Tours of the hotel will follow. The public is invited to the grand opening ceremony, but is asked to bring a can of non-perishable food to benefit the Virginia Food Bank. The Shamin hotel group is coordinating a company wide effort against hunger this winter by donating volunteer hours with the Virginia Food Bank during the month of January.
