Formerly a Quality Inn and Suites, Shamin Hotels has completed an extensive renovation and update of the interior and exterior of the building. The hotel will begin operating under the Holiday Inn Express name on November 15, 2007.

The Holiday Inn Express is only a few blocks away from downtown Richmond's business district. And be sure to notice old Sovran Bank artifacts throughout the building. The building was built back in 1964 and served as a Sovran Bank for more than 20 years. While Shamin hotels wanted to update this beautiful asset they also wanted to keep some of the great historic artifacts around to tell the building's story to guests.
Located on Cary Street at the gateway to the popular Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom, travelers will enjoy being in walking distance to the premier restaurants and exciting night life. The Holiday Inn Express is also only a few blocks away from the James River and Canal systems that feature popular tourists' attractions such as Brown's Island and historic Tredegar. The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar will offer reduced admission and packages to all Holiday Inn Express guests.

The public is invited to the grand opening ceremony, but is asked to bring a can of non-perishable food to benefit the Virginia Food Bank. The Shamin hotel group is coordinating a company wide effort against hunger this winter by donating volunteer hours with the Virginia Food Bank during the month of January.
