Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort and Spa, Hainan opens in China

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts opened Shangri-La's Sanya Resort and Spa, Hainan at Haitang Bay. The recently-opened 340-room resort is set on 45 acres and offers recreational activities and facilities, including its own Adventure Zone and Kids' Water Park.

Shangri-La's first in mainland China has about 984 feet of beachfront and views of the surrounding mountains and hills. It offers options for traveling families, as well as groups looking for a scenic setting for a wedding, meeting or incentive event.

Activities are spread out across two designated areas - Oasis and Sands - with five activity centers. In addition to the Water Park and Adventure Zone, the resort has two free-form pools; jogging and bike trails; a beach football field; sand volleyball court; water games; a gym with an outdoor deck for activities such as Tai Chi and yoga; and additional recreational activities that are complimentary for guests.

Guestrooms are located in the seven-story Ocean, Coral and Palm wings and also take their design cues from nature, with hardwood floors, closet handles carved to look like seashells, and gold-leaf seashell artwork. Every king-bedded room has a pull-out sofa bed. Family amenities include robes and slippers for kids.

Restaurants include Kon Tiki; the all-day dining restaurant Chuyi Wutai, which has six open theater-style kitchens and its own kid's corner with a buffet designed specifically for children; and S.E.A. restaurant. Similarly available are the Lobby Lounge, Pool Bar and open-air Dragonfly Bar.

The resort's design includes elements found in nature and the tropics. The open-air lobby is decorated in neutral tones with ceiling fans, stone and wood carvings, floral patterns and tropical plants.

For destination weddings, meetings and events, the resort has a 16,145-square-foot ballroom and 10 breakout function spaces. Events can also be set up along the 984 feet of beach, on the lawn or in the landscaped garden.

Opening later will be the resort's CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La and eight two-story villas.

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently owns and/or manages over 85 hotels under the Shangri-La brand with a room inventory of over 34,000. The group has a upcoming projects in mainland China, India, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Qatar and Sri Lanka.
