Skypool opens at Andre Fu designed Gŏng bar at Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard

An infinity Skypool is now open 52 floors above ground level in the Gŏng bar at the Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London, making it the highest pool in Western Europe. 

Facing west across the city, the 36-by-13-foot heated pool has views of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and Westminster. The pool area was designed by Hong Kong-based interior designer Andre Fu of AFSO, who is also responsible for the hotel’s Gŏng bar.

Gŏng was inspired by the mythical aspect of “dou-gong,” a series of interlocking brackets that are used in historical Chinese architecture. The Skypool fits with the traditional Eastern design combined with modern Western glamor, and an oversized “paint scroll,” measuring 49 feet, appears to float overhead.

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently owns and/or manages more than 80 hotels under the Shangri-La brand, with a room inventory of over 34,000. The group has upcoming projects in mainland China, India, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.
