Spring update: Five hotels with great outdoor space

Mad46

Spring is nearly here, and people are emerging from hibernation to travel and socialize. Hotels are also opening up their lanais, patios and rooftop bars for the season—here are just a few worth checking out.

Renaissance New York Midtown
It won’t open until Monday, but we got a sneak peek at the Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel and can attest to the impressive amount of outdoor space this property will have. Rock & Reilly's Irish Pub will have a huge patio covered by a retractable awning, leaving the space usable in all kinds of weather. The patio can also be divided into separate segments for private events.
But perhaps more impressive than that are the Terrace Rooms, guestrooms that come complete with a 300-square-foot fully furnished balcony overlooking the bar and 34th Street. These are a great pick for relaxing al fresco in private, or with a small group of friends.

Mad46 at the Roosevelt Hotel
Right by New York City’s iconic Grand Central Terminal, Mad46 Rooftop Lounge sits on top of the equally iconic Roosevelt Hotel. The lounge, which operates seasonally, has a climate-controlled indoor space and a large outdoor balcony with great views over midtown. A regular calendar of movie screenings and DJs keeps fans coming back. Retractable canopies at mad46 can be extended over the rooftop during inclimate weather. Good to know: While Mad56 is closed from November to March, it is open year-round for private events. (Tip: Order the meatballs with burrata. You won’t be disappointed at all.)

Above Beverly Hills at the Sixty Beverly Hills
The rooftop pool deck and lounge at Sixty looks out over Los Angeles. The pool itself is lined in Swarovski crystal, and guests can relax in six private cabanas equipped with a private fireplace and cocktail tables. The Above Beverly Hills lounge, adjacent to the pool, is a relaxing watering hole with a great view.

Drai's Beach Club + Nightclub at the Cromwell
Drai's Beach Club sits 11 stories above the Las Vegas Strip on the rooftop of The Cromwell, surrounded by glass walls to cut down on the noise from the street below. Not that the street below is any match for the music, which keeps the party atmosphere going non-stop. Top DJs and musicians are booked to perform in the evenings, so get there early to make the most of the time. The pools are surrounded by palm trees to keep things cool (and provide some respite from the Nevada sun).

The dec Rooftop Lounge + Bar at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago is perched 12 stories above Magnificent Mile. Beyond the cocktails, the lounge has a color-changing LED wall to set the mood for each evening.
