Summa International renovates Kauai Shores, an Aqua Hotel in Kauai, Hawaii

Aqua Hotels & Resorts re-opened the former Kauai Sands Hotel as the Kauai Shores, an Aqua Hotel following a $10-million. Located in Kapaa, the two-story, low-rise hotel has 200 guestrooms and two outdoor swimming pools spread across six acres of tropical lawns and gardens.

The renovation project, done by Summa International, includes guestrooms, corridors, common areas and the hotel's restaurant, as well as exterior upgrades to the building and grounds. Guestrooms now have a retro-modern design with island colors in lime green, aqua and orange. Designers restored the original blue entry tile and balanced it with the addition of a brightly colored accent wall. Lighter finishes were used on the furniture, which includes a platform bed with curved headboard, to create a spacious feel. A selection of tropical floral patterns on the bed scarf and artwork were also used.

For the exterior, designers worked with the existing layout of the buildings, which form a courtyard around a centerpiece pool. New designs include new pool lounge furniture with accent pillows, colored umbrellas, colorful partitions and exterior paint.
