Luxury boutique hotel Flemings Mayfair is investing $21 million in a refurbishment plan, which will see 129 new-look bedrooms, suites and apartments, alongside a new tea lounge, bar and brand new restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin. Work began last year on the family-owned property of SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World), and is due for completion in the first quarter of 2016.
The first phase of the refurbishment project transformed 40 of the property’s bedrooms and suites and its 10 Mayfair apartments, each with individual themes. A selection of bedrooms, junior suites and studio suites, as well as one-, two- and three-bed apartments benefit from a private entrance on Clarges Street; or in the case of the Townhouse, a private entrance on Half Moon Street.
Tully Filmer Interior Design took inspiration from the heritage of the hotel, returning the bedrooms to their Georgian splendor with three meter high ceilings and period features. The bedrooms are decorated with a nod to the 1930s, with shades of bronze and greys, along with bespoke furniture designed in silver stained fiddle-back Sycamore.
Artwork from photographer Andy Gotts MBE adorn the bedroom walls. Many of these pictures were taken at Flemings over the past six months and form part of its new private collection.
Adding to the feel of the suites, guests can enjoy their own complimentary gin bar, designed in conjunction with Joel Harrison and Neil Ridley.
The top floor penthouse suite, which sleeps six, and includes use of a private lift and roof terrace, is designed for secluded outdoor entertaining or al-fresco drinks and dining.
The Townhouse on Half Moon Street comprises seven bedrooms, which can be either booked individually as suites, or entirely as a whole property.
The Drawing Room - an interpretation on a traditional Georgian Drawing room - created in conjunction with The East India Company, offers guests an Indian-inspired space. The 30-cover space boasts hand-painted De Gournay wall panels and a library stocked with books from Assouline.
The second phase of the development will commence in January 2016 and is set to see the remaining hotel rooms revamped alongside the complete refurbishment of the bar and restaurant areas. March 2016 will see the opening of a new bar and restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin, who will join Flemings Mayfair as executive chef.
Originally opened in 1851 and converted from 13 Georgian townhouses, Flemings Mayfair is located near London’s Green Park, Piccadilly, and the Buckingham Palace.
