Wisconsin's Abbey Resort undergoes $2M renovation

The Abbey Resort & Spa, located on the shores of Lake Geneva, Wis., will undergo a nearly $2-million renovation this year, with the plans approved by the Village of Fontana. The renovations are planned as the resort turns 50.

The Abbey is working with lead designers from BSB Design Inc., Lowell Management Services and Whitespace Interiors to create a refreshed experience both inside and out. Lowell will begin construction this January.

According to Joe Safin, senior partner at BSB Design, the goal is to create an updated look for The Abbey that matches the feeling guests experience from the employees who work there. “We wanted to focus on the areas most used by the guests such as the entries, the restaurant facade and the harbor-scape, which are regularly experienced by the guests during their stay,” he said.

The Abbey’s exterior renovations will update the major outdoor focal points. Elements of the Abbey A-Frame will be added at varying scales throughout the resort, including at entrances of the Waterfront Restaurant, the Avani Spa and the harbor side entrance. The interior renovations include updates to the grand ballroom with new carpeting, wall treatments, window coverings and the women’s relaxation and tranquility areas in the spa.

The renovations are slated for completion in May 2013 and following, the resort will host a 50th Anniversary gala. Throughout 2013, The Abbey is planning a host of activities to commemorate its 50th Anniversary.

Located 80 miles from downtown Chicago and 50 miles from Milwaukee, The Abbey Resort & Spa is nestled on 90 acres of manicured grounds. Last renovated in 2005 with continual upgrades and remodeling, it is the only full-service resort on the shores of Lake Geneva.

The 35,000-square-foot Avani Spa, which reopened in June 2008 after a $1.5-million renovation, provides spa treatments while the resort’s meeting center has 40,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space. The resort also has 334 luxury guestrooms including 13 suites. The Abbey Resort & Spa is managed and operated by Hostmark Hospitality Group of Schaumburg, Ill.
