Ace Hotels Brooklyn bound

Ace Hotels could be going south, to Brooklyn. The Daily News citing The Commercial Observer reports that GFI Capital Resources is nearing a deal to open an outpost of the boutique hotel chain blocks from the Barclays Center.

“Obviously if Ace Hotel is interested in Downtown, we’d be thrilled to have them,” said Tucker Reed, president of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. “We think the market is vastly underserved when it comes to hospitality and nightlife options still.”

Allen Gross, the president and CEO of GFI Capital Resources — which developed Manhattan’s Ace Hotel in 2009 — acquired a site at the corner of Schermerhorn and Bond streets with equity partner Spruce Capital, according to the report.
