First look at NYC's upcoming Jade Hotel

Onboard Hospitality has tapped New York City-based construction company Falcon Pacific Builders to build the upcoming Jade Hotel in Manhattan's Garment District, following Gene Kaufman Architects' design for the structure.

The 21-story hotel is slated for completion in late 2020. Renderings for the project suggest it will have a simple, gray masonry façade, stacked balconies and outdoor terraces. The company did not share details about the interiors.

The announcement was made jointly by CEO Carl Schwartz and COO Joe Caraciolo of Falcon Pacific Builders. “We are very pleased to have been selected for this construction project, which included a number of site challenges which we have successfully been able to overcome on behalf of our client,” said Kent M. Swig, president of Falcon Pacific Builders. The company did not respond to a request for clarification on what those site challenges were.

The hotel site at 36 West 38th St. was owned originally by Gemini Real Estate Asset Management, which auctioned off the property as part of the firm’s bankruptcy proceedings. In January 2017, Joginder Sharma of Onboard Hospitality LLC became the new owner of the site for just over $19 million.

The property is not connected to the former Jade Hotel—now The Walker hotel—in the city's Greenwich Village neighborhood.
