Georgia youth sports destination to add $39M hotel

LakePoint Sports, a youth sports destination in Emerson, Ga., revealed plans to open a $39 million, 200-room hotel in early 2021. Emerson Mayor Al Pallone estimated the new hotel would bring upwards of 50,000 roomnights per year.

The hotel is expected to include a resort-style pool, food-and-beverage offerings and a rooftop terrace. LakePoint Sports, which is owned by Rimrock Capital Management, has partnered with JLL and HC Architecture on the design and development of the hotel.

"We are so excited about adding this special hotel to the center of our campus," Mark O'Brien, president/CEO of LakePoint Sports, said in a statement "The hotel will address the number one request of our athletes, families and coaches: More hotel rooms on campus. The hotel, restaurant and food-and-beverage offerings will directly complement events at the Champions Center and the entire campus, enabling our guests the added convenience of staying on campus near their events and activities."

Located roughly 40 minutes northwest of Atlanta, LakePoint Sports serves more than 30 sports year-round. It features the 170,000-square-foot Champions Center, where 12 full-court basketball games or 24 full-court volleyball games can play at once; eight Major League-sized baseball fields; three multiuse fields for soccer, lacrosse, rugby and football; a 10-court sand volleyball pavilion; and a waterboarding park. Since it opened in 2014, LakePoint Sports has attracted more than 5 million visitor days, contributing to nearly $100 million in annual economic impact.
