Hilton and Zagreb City Hotels will develop the Canopy by Hilton Zagreb in Croatia scheduled to open in late 2018. The downtown Zagreb property will be the first Canopy in continental Europe.
The hotel, which will join the Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik in Iceland in the brand's European portfolio, will be near the city’s main rail station and the upcoming Branmir Centar shopping mall. The Union building site, Croatia's first confectionary factory, will be developed into the new hotel.
Canopy by Hilton Zagreb will be Hilton's third hotel in Croatia, following the DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb and Hilton Imperial Dubrovik. The brand, which Hilton launched in 2014, operates a portfolio of two hotels: Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre and Canopy by Hilton Washington, D.C., The Wharf. Meanwhile, the Canopy development pipeline currently has 20 hotel projects. Canopy by Hilton Washington, D.C., Bethesda North, Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District and Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown are slated to open this year. These are included Hilton’s global portfolio of 5,100 properties with nearly 838,000 guestrooms across its 14 brands in 103 countries and territories.
The Canopy by Hilton Austin Downtown is Hilton's most recent hotel signing for the brand. Private real estate investor Scenic Capital Advisors will own and develop the 140-room hotel scheduled to open in January 2020. Construction on the property designed by Lake/Flato Architects in Austin’s West 6th Street District will begin in June 2018.
Construction on the brand’s new property in Tempe, Arizona—the Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown, University Area—will also begin this year. Architectural firm Allen + Philip along with interior design firms Scottsdale and EoA will design the 200-room hotel near the Arizona State University campus opening in December 2019.
